Autumn has always been a season of change, but this year, itโs a time of transformation.
As a new academic year picks up, and the transformative energy abounds, Iโve been thinking about one of my favorite musicalsโWicked ๐ซ
The end of Act One finds Elphaba at a crossroads. Like her, Iโm through playing by the rules of someone elseโs game, and itโs too late to go back to sleep.
Itโs time to bet on myself as I find whatโs next after Stanfordโs layoff of over 360 dedicated, accomplished staff at the end of July.
This leads me to my announcement:
From now on, Iโve decided to focus on career opportunities outside of Stanford while I see through the couple of internal Stanford roles that I applied for early in this layoff-driven search.
After 3 years at Stanford, this is a hard decision. This staff community means so much to me. Iโll always be of service to the staff of Stanford, no matter where I am. ๐ซถ๐ผ
When I got my graduate degree in education administration, for me, that was a lifelong promise of dedication to the field and to educators. I remain committed to this promise, even if my path takes me away from education.
This means it may be time for me to go soon. While my time as a Stanford staff member is limited, I am remembering that I am unlimited.
โSo if you care to find me, look to the Western sky. As someone told me lately, EVERYONE deserves a chance to fly.
And if Iโm flying solo, at least Iโm flying free.โ
Nobody is ever going to bring me down.
And to my colleagues affected by the layoff, and those who remain within: Iโm not letting anybody bring you down, either.
Community is the answer. Rise up for #Stanford and #highereducation.
