Autumn has always been a season of change, but this year, itโ€™s a time of transformation.

As a new academic year picks up, and the transformative energy abounds, Iโ€™ve been thinking about one of my favorite musicalsโ€”Wicked ๐Ÿ’ซ

The end of Act One finds Elphaba at a crossroads. Like her, Iโ€™m through playing by the rules of someone elseโ€™s game, and itโ€™s too late to go back to sleep.

Itโ€™s time to bet on myself as I find whatโ€™s next after Stanfordโ€™s layoff of over 360 dedicated, accomplished staff at the end of July.

This leads me to my announcement:

From now on, Iโ€™ve decided to focus on career opportunities outside of Stanford while I see through the couple of internal Stanford roles that I applied for early in this layoff-driven search.

After 3 years at Stanford, this is a hard decision. This staff community means so much to me. Iโ€™ll always be of service to the staff of Stanford, no matter where I am. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

When I got my graduate degree in education administration, for me, that was a lifelong promise of dedication to the field and to educators. I remain committed to this promise, even if my path takes me away from education.

This means it may be time for me to go soon. While my time as a Stanford staff member is limited, I am remembering that I am unlimited.

โ€œSo if you care to find me, look to the Western sky. As someone told me lately, EVERYONE deserves a chance to fly.

And if Iโ€™m flying solo, at least Iโ€™m flying free.โ€

Nobody is ever going to bring me down.

And to my colleagues affected by the layoff, and those who remain within: Iโ€™m not letting anybody bring you down, either.

Community is the answer. Rise up for #Stanford and #highereducation.

In that spirit, Iโ€™m thrilled to launch a no-cost virtual community space for staff across higher ed who are determining whatโ€™s next.
